Repeat Prescriptions

There are a number of ways you can order your medications.

1. Order online via Patient Access (clink the link at the top of this page). Please note this service is only available for repeat medications.

2. Via our no reply email (noreply.HLGP@borders.scot.nhs.uk). Please be aware that this email address is only available for prescription requests - no other enquiries will be responded to. Include your name, your date of birth, the name of the medication and the dosage given on the packaging.

3. By posting your re-order slip into the white box at the door of our main reception.

4. By posting a written note with your full name, address, date of birth, the name of the medication and the dose into the white box at the door of our main reception.

Whichever you choose, please allow 4 working days for your prescription to be processed by us and we will send it down to your nominated pharmacy. Please check with your pharmacy for their turnaround time for collection of your medication.

If you forget to request a Repeat Prescription

If you forget to obtain a prescription for repeat medication and run out of important medicines, you may be able to get help from your pharmacy.  Under the Urgent Provision of Repeat Medication Service, pharmacists may be able to supply you with a further cycle of a previously repeated medicine without having to get a prescription from your GP.

Urgent Prescriptions

Please be aware of your medication needs and do not allow yourself to run out of medications that are essential to you.  We discourage urgent prescriptions requests.

For safety reasons, telephone requests cannot be accepted.

Additional information

Need to set up Patient Access?

Online ordering is done via the Patient Access system. If you haven't yet registered for this please call the surgery for your registration numbers. Then you can simply complete registration for Patient Access using your home computer or smart phone.

If you are on a short term medication or you have started a new medication, it will not appear on your Patient Access account. To re-order this type of prescription, you will need to use the alternative ways of requesting your medication.

Ordering using your prescription slip?

At the right hand side of your prescription there is a tear off repeat prescription slip which you can use to order your next prescription. Your pharmacist should give this back to you when you pick up your medication.

Tick the box next to the medication(s) you would like to order. You can leave it in the collection box at the community pharmacy, or in the box at the GP surgery main reception.

Emailing the surgery?

If you are on a short term medication or you have started a new medication, it will not appear on your prescription slip on your Patient Access account. To reorder this type of prescription, you can send your request by email to:

noreply.HLGP@borders.scot.nhs.uk

Include your name, your date of birth, the name of the medication and the dosage given on the packaging.

Please do not use this address for any other enquiries - it is only for ordering prescriptions.

Questions about your medications?

If you have questions about your medications, your local pharmacists can often answer these. They can also answer questions about medicines you can buy without a prescription.

Have unused medications?

If you have old medications that need disposed of, take them to your local pharmacy for safe disposal. Never flush drugs down the toilet as it is harmful to the environment. If you are being issued with medications that you no longer take then please speak to the surgery so that we can adjust your prescription and save us from wasting medications.

Due an annual review?

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and a notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.
